What sets Yuu apart from other UTAU voicebanks?

If you're a fan of pushing made-for-CV-Japanese-UTAU to its absolute limits, you're in luck, 'cause so am I. Along with inventing* CV+VCV, which is an efficient but flexible combination of CV and VCV, I'm always up for trying to record some challenging voicebanks. Yuu is set apart from the usual UTAU voicebank by their (actively expanding) multilingual singing capabilities. The 2in1 and 3in1 packages allow you to seamlessly use multiple languages in one track. Yuu has five unique voice colors that are great for expressive songs. Using an RVC model of the voice provider (me), their range in English and German is expanded naturally and faithful to the voice provider. Yuu brings a rare tone - dark yet solid - that the UTAU community has not seen much.

Which one should you get?

Yuu's current voicebanks are very similar in tone. The only "real" difference is the language and - with that - the configuration system. I would just choose based on what language you would like to use, and if you aren't sure, there's no harm in trying them all out with their 3in1 voicebank. Do note that their Japanese CV+VCV has more extras, so if you're a big fan of voice colors and customizability at your fingertips, that's something you might want to consider.

Are you working on a new or underrepresented UTAU language?

I would be delighted to record for it, as I love a challenge and I am actively looking to expand Yuu Tsumihara's language range! Nothing brings me more joy than seeing different language systematic methods, meeting their creators and contributing to their development in a meaningful way. Does this sound like you meet all the criteria or do you know someone that could use this? Please reach out to me using the contact buttons in the footer!

Using Scream, Whisper and Vocal Fry voice colors

Because of the nature of these recordings, you want to avoid OpenUTAU stretching them or pitching them up or down.

Downloading tn_fnds

I would recommend tn_fnds_PB.

After downloading the file, right-click it in File Explorer and click "Extract All...". Click extract.

Setting tn_fnds as the resampler

  • Click Ok.

Setting the color and W flag

  • After either loading a file or creating a new part, open a part by double-clicking on it.

About Yuu

Tsumihara Yuu (つ見晴ら夕), nicknamed TSUMIYUU, is a character associated with voicebanks for the UTAU program of the same name, developed by Shirukagiri.

  • Tsumihara (つ見晴ら) - View over the harbor, Yuu (夕) - Evening.
  • Yuu has a black and blue streaked mullet to their shoulders with a diamond-shaped ahoge. They have emerald green eyes and pale skin. They appear tall, but it is not known if it's an effect of their heeled boots or if they're naturally tall. They wear a dark blue top that clings to their body, the sleeves fade at their wrists. There is a diamond-shaped "boob window", from which four green ribbons come. Two of those ribbons wrap around their arms and two go over their shoulders and dangle down. Yuu's skirt has two layers of loosely gathered fabric, creating a ruffle effect. There's thin chains with diamond-shaped charms hanging from the top of the top layer. On the upper part of the skirt there is a corset-like leather part. They have shin-length black-blue leather boots and they use a space-themed cane.
  • Non-binary, they/them.
  • 18 years old, age does not change when their birthday passes in the real world.
  • Birthday is August 31st.

About Yuu's life

Refer to Yuki's backstory for what happened before this.
Being with a group of people that actually acknowledged Yuki's hopes and dreams has only lead to positive development. Her range significantly expanded to accommodate for lower notes with practice and her voice is more versatile than ever. Her fashion sense has also greatly improved, instead of copying what her idols were doing she started wearing what she wanted to wear herself. Aside from exploring her fashion sense, Yuki has also explored her identity. Thanks to resources on the internet Yuki could put a finger on that one thing that felt "wrong"- her gender. They identify as non-binary now and their preferred pronouns are they/them.
Sadly those sweet sweet high-school years don't last forever; final exams are coming up and band practice has been halted. Yuu has motivation issues, they'd much rather jam with their friends than study for chemistry, yet they have no choice but to prepare for those nerve-wracking final exams. Not being able to spend time with friends and having to study for what feels like the whole day is taking a toll on Yuu, and they dream of performing on stage instead of sitting and doing homework in the library.

The transition

This is a little paragraph on the Yuki to Yuu transition, as I think it's necessary to avoid some misconceptions.
I've been wanting to change some things about Yuki for a while now, as since my transition it just didn't feel like Yuki was a character I was fit to keep voicing and representing. I'm AFAB non-binary, and since Yuki is based on and heavily linked to my life and person, it feels odd to have my UTAU counterpart use she/her and be overly feminine. When I refer to myself before realizing I'm not cis, I use she/her. This is just something I do for myself, and I do not do this with trans people that don't prefer that way of referring to them pre-transition. Yuki, my voice back then and the design I did back then are something I relate to me pre-transition, and therefore it feels right to refer to them with how I would have referred to them before transitioning. Having my character be trans yet still retaining her old voicebank's name, design and page made the most sense to me, as it allows me to change things around while preserving Yuki the way I made her.

RVC and my stance on AI

Next, I want to elaborate on the usage of RVC with my ARPAsing voicebank.
The RVC model was trained only on my own voice, by me, with (obviously) my full consent. This is, in my eyes, a fully ethical and good use of AI. If you wish not to use the pitches generated with RVC, feel free to only use the A3 pitch, which was recorded manually.

About Tsugi in relation to Yuu and Yuki

As the voice provider of Tsugi is my IRL little sister, please do not make content shipping or pairing Yuu or Yuki with Tsugi. It's just weird man. Don't do it.
